Need creative career advice?

We think you’ll agree with us when we say we could all use a little guidance in the right direction from time to time as artists.

Y’know – someone to tell us if we should spend our last dollar on the most expensive software we can find…

…or if all those thousands spent on going to art school are really worth it?

So, who better to speak to than a man who has spoken to literally hundreds of artists over the years? Meet Carl Olson – the voice behind the hugely popular Digital Convergence podcasts.

In this interview, he shares the big insights and takeaways he’s picked up from talking to people such as Hunger Games director, Alan Bell, and many others.

You’ll hear how lots of successful artists and creatives got started, and pick up lots of great tips to help you make the right decisions in your career.

And, you’ll also hear the amazing story of how a chance meeting with a fellow film-maker helped Carl turn an online video course into a six-figure business….

Creative Career Advice From Leading Artists

Carl Olson describes himself as a digital media creative, content producer and artist. He creates training materials such as videos and podcasts to help empower and educate people in a wide range of fields.

About six years ago when Carl was still a software developer, he launched his Digital Convergence podcast, a series of interviews designed to help photographers and filmmakers make the most of the Canon 5D MK II – an affordable DSLR camera that would go on to revolutionize the way videos are made.

The Canon 5D MKII in action. This affordable DSLR camera single-handedly revolutionized the way videos are made.

He says: “I didn’t know what I was doing, but I just started doing it. I’ve learned a lot of lessons along the way, but I’ve also talked to a lot of incredible people who have changed the way I do business today.”

Here are just a few of the standout moments from Carl’s Digital Convergence Podcasts over the years:

  • How Gale Tattersall, director of TV show House MD, chose to shoot an entire episode using the inexpensive Canon 5D Mk II, using lighting from Home Depot.
  • Why you don’t need to have the most expensive gear out there or spend thousands on going to art school to learn the skills you need to get great results.
  • An idea from video expert, Israel Hyman, (Izzy Video) that helped Carl turn a regular video production project into a six-figure business
  • How to find a creative outlet in pretty much any subject
  • Meeting Hunger Games editor, Alan Bell, and hearing why he hires (or doesn’t hire) people
  • Why reading regularly is so important to you as a creative

You’ll get a much deeper insight into all these key takeaways in this week’s podcast with Carl Olson.

So, do have a listen if you want some great creative career advice that will help you move your career as an artist forward.
