Video Contest Winners 2016

And the Winners Are…

First off – thank you to everyone that helped spread the word and that voted on the contest…

And an even bigger thank you to everyone that submitted a video.  You are the real winners for taking action and sharing your story and continuing to work on improving your art.

Last week I posted the 7 entrants into our first ever video contest and then we opened it up for voting. The competition was fierce and it literally came down to just 6 votes between the top 2 entries!

Because the competition was so fierce I decided the best thing to do would be to award some extra prizes so that everyone who entered will get something special they can use to help them move forward with their art.

Let’s do it!Grand Prize Winner – Mautje Hous: An open love letter
Great work on the presentation style of your video!

Mautje wins an Ipad Pro, An Apple Pencil, a 1 on 1 coaching call with Mitch, a Nomad Artist Satchel, and entry into our upcoming coaching program on making money with your art.Runner-Up – Leena Cruz: It all started with learning shading…
I really loved your video and I’m really looking forward to working with you on taking the next step with your art!  I can’t wait!!

You’re such an inspiration Tim – I think more people need to pick up the charge like you are doing – really amazing!

Tim wins a 1 on 1 coaching call with Mitch and a Nomad Art Satchel.Honorable Mention – Jose A De Leon: Never stop learning – no matter what your age
Another inspiring video!  Thank you so much for sharing Jose – I had a few personal emails coming in admiring your video and dedication to learning.  Great job!

Jose wins a 1 on 1 call with Mitch.Honorable Mention – Amanda Rosko: Loving the podcast!
So happy to hear that you are getting a lot from listening to the podcast – can’t wait to speak with you!

Once again thank you to everyone that participated, shared and entered this contest.  You’re all a huge part of the amazing community that we’re building here at Pencil Kings and I appreciate you helping us to make this a success.

  1. Really got to say it – great job everyone. I had such a blast counting up the votes… it almost felt like watching a head to head basketball game going back and forth – I wasn’t sure who was going to come out on top until the very end.

  2. Yaaay! Thank you Mitch, I’m really excited to work with you and I’m very happy I won the entry for the coaching program, I can’t wait!!
I see this as a new opportunity to improve and launch my career, thank you for your votes everyone, it means a lot to me!

Congratulations Mautje, Tim, Jose and Amanda! <3

  3. This is so great! Thanks for this email. I have to confess, that I have been struggling to just get through my art. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I am a firm believer in ‘no accidents’. Watching this today, all of these videos really made me feel good. It definitely helps to have a community to lean on. I didn’t even know that this contest was happening. I think I would just archive the emails and think that one day I’d watch them. Now, I will pay closer attention. Congratulations to everyone, and thanks!!

  4. I am lost for words

    @Mitch & Pencil Kings Team,

The truth is I have been winning since I joined Pencil Kings even though my process is slow.
I hope you realize that every single word i said in this video is true and truly meant for you.

I was 5 years old when I wanted to know how to draw a dog or a cat and make it look real. #frustration
I hoped art classes in high school would help, i remember one day the art teacher telling me that what i did was ugly #frustration
In an attempt to take online art classes and getting feedback, the art teacher said : I dont wanna say that its ugly, but,, #frustration
    I gave up .

When I drew that eye back in 2013 with the first I took class with you guys, #frustration Because it looked anything BUT real.
The Difference is that you guys were there for me and Mitch Told me to Enjoy the process and not the results. It took a while, a couple of years;but because of that support I never left.
It might not seem a big deal but posting my work in the community and now even posting a video online are great exercises for me to push through and get over my insecurities.
I really BELIEVE i can do this and maybe even have a creative career in a couple of year .. ; and that is because of you guys. That confidence thing is really huge for me.

I am not sure if that really came across in the video but I wanted to say it: YOU GUYS ARE THE REAL CHAMPIONS!
    Thank you for everything!!

Warm congratulations to all other contestants .. i really mean it when I say that your art journeys inspired me. Thank you!

    😀
    Love,
    Mautje

  5. I really enjoyed the contest and I appreciate the encouragement and comments from all of the votes. I’ve enjoyed my time with Pencil Kings, and I’m thrilled to be winning anything. If I’d had to narrow down the prizes to the ones that would be most helpful it would have been the Sketchpad and the coaching call. I could not be happier 🙂 And the Nomad Sketchbook is the prize from that daily drawing challenge back last September that started this whole drawing habit.

Congratulations to Mautje and Leena, and congratulations to Jose and Amanda as well. I look forward to being a part of Pencil Kings with you.

  6. This is a great marketing tactic! I’m sold and will be signing up very soon. All these videos touched on the same troubles I have like keenness but lack of time or skill. They all have made it clear that Pencil Kings can help with this.
