“You have to continue to push through all the BS. Because, if you don’t, you stop and you lose that momentum.

~ Derek Rodenbeck

Good advice on social media for artists can be hard to find.

Should you be on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat….or just be everywhere?

How often should you post? And how do you know if you’re posting too little…or too much?

In this week’s podcast, we catch up with artist Derek Rodenbeck – an artist whose freelance career hasn’t always run smoothly.

Yet, despite the ups and downs, he’s been steadily boosting his following online – gaining new followers and getting new clients.

So how has he achieved this? The answers are all here in this interview…

Social Media For Artists: Real Life Advice From Derek Rodenbeck

Derek Rodenbeck is currently working on three key projects – a comic book, a card game, and his Facebook and YouTube channel Art Broz with previous podcast guest, Nikolas Hagialas.

And, while he’s not rolling around in dollars just yet, these projects are paying the bills and allowing him to live comfortably without worrying about where his next meal will come from.

So, it’s awesome news for Derek, but what’s changed?

One of the key breakthroughs has been Derek’s growing following on social media. But how has he done this? Is there one specific thing that helped open doors for him?

He says: “It’s not one thing – it’s a multitude of things that you apply. Consistency is key to doing anything, but it’s also about allowing yourself to be ready for success and what’s coming your way.

“It isn’t until you sit down and tell yourself you’re ready to move forward that you can. So, I quit my bar job (my only steady source of income), and I concentrated on putting myself out there and posting stuff on social media consistently.

“All it takes is for that one person to see your posts, and everybody else will jump on the bus!”

Here are some of the questions we asked Derek in this week’s podcast:

  1. What are the main things that can help you get traction in your art career?
  2. How do you prepare yourself for success and focus on your self-development as an artist?
  3. How do you stop holding yourself back?
  4. What should you post on social media and how often should you post it?
  5. How can doing this lead on to bigger things?
  6. What can you do today to help you move forward?

You’ll find the answers to these and many more questions in this week’s podcast.

So, if you’ve been struggling to find good advice on social media for artists, we hope this podcast will point you in the right direction.
