“Art is a piece of us. It’s something we transcribe from our hearts, our souls, and our minds and put it down in whichever medium we choose and say ‘Here world, have that!’ And that can be tough.

~ Derek Rodenbeck

Want to know how to get back into making art?

Picking up your pencils and diving back into being an artist again can be pretty scary at first…

Will you still be able to draw as well as you once did?

How can you make time for art in your busy schedule?

And how do you even stay creative and keep those ideas flowing?

Derek Rodenbeck is a busy artist right now, but it wasn’t always this way. So he’s had to adjust to being a full-time artist again while still making time for all the other stuff he loves doing.

So if you want to get back into making art again (but don’t know where to start), check out this week’s podcast interview…

Because Derek’s own experiences might just help you get there – even if life has gotten in the way for so long.

Derek Rodenbeck on How to Get Back Into Making Art

These days, Derek Rodenbeck is one busy creative dude. But the work didn’t always come in so easily – in fact, Derek says it’s been four years since he last worked full-time as a comic book artist.

So how do you get back into art? And what can you do if your skills aren’t as sharp as they once were?

Derek says: “How did I get the ball rolling initially? It was hard, man – in fact, I almost walked away from this project three times!

“So you have to be patient and not expect perfection every time. The hardest thing, though, was the mental barrier we set for ourselves. You have to go back to the actual love of making art, because that’s when you’ll start excelling at it.”

Like most people, Derek has lots of other interests and commitments besides making art.

For example, he’s often hanging out with his buddy, Nik Haglias, and making videos for their Art Broz YouTube Channel.

He also loves to travel, and recently went to Montreal, Canada, to meet up with fellow artists and friends.

So how does Derek make time for his art in this busy schedule? He uses Toggl -a time management app that tracks how long you’re spending on projects and even tells you when to take a break! There’s a free plan available, so why not give it a try yourself?

But finding your creative mojo once more isn’t just about good time management. It’s also about being inspired by others and experiencing the sheer joy of making art.

So, if you’ve been wondering how to get back into making art, we hope this podcast with Derek Rodenbeck gives you plenty of ways to reboot your creativity! Here are some of the questions we asked Derek Rodenbeck in this week’s podcast:

  2. How do you develop a positive mindset?
  3. How do you fit making art into your busy life?
